Being a security officer is not easy. There are long periods of standing and walking. There is the constant risk of personal injury, physical encounters with criminals, or irate customers. The stress levels and burnout rates are high. Plus, there’s lots to know about security fundamentals such as spotting suspicious behaviors, crowd control, de-escalation tactics, the limits and consequences of the use of force, CPR, and more. In fact, most states require training, licensing, and periodic renewal of officer certification to continue working as a security officer. Florida requires each officer to complete a forty (40) hour course before you can apply for a security license. The security license is only valid for two (2) years. Florida also requires an additional twenty-four (24) hour course to carry a firearm. As a result, contract security officer firms deal with annual turnover rates approaching 80% or more. That makes employee retention in today’s labor market more important than ever. Employee turnover is expensive. It affects the bottom line in more ways than just the dollars spent on training, uniforms, and equipment for officers that didn’t work out or took another job. Frenchman’s Creek security staff does not experience high turnover. Almost 50% of our security staff has over three (3) years’ experience here at Frenchman’s Creek while 30% of our staff has over five (5) years’ experience. With low turnover comes an experienced staff that understands the Frenchman’s Creek culture. We are here to help, and we are committed to providing a high level of service. FRENCHMANS CREEK PLAYS FOR P.I.N.K. This years’ Women's Charity events were held to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Our Play for P.I.N.K (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) events started on Saturday January 27th at the Beach Club with a lovely luncheon and then a card party, held at the Church, where 120 women attended. On Tuesday, January 30, the second event of Play For P.I.N.K. was held – THE GOLF TOURNAMENT. It had a wonderful participation with 140 women, 9 and 18 holers, braving the very cool weather to participate. However, due to the weather, it was just a 9 hole event. This was followed by a delicious multi-choice buffet, with a fabulous des sert assortment. After lunch, Beth Hornstein, a member of the national Advisory Board ,spoke about the importance of Play for P.I.N.K. in its fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Research. Lovely gifts were provided to all those who attended both events by the Estee Lauder Foundation who underwrites the administrative costs of Play For P.I.N.K. and enables all proceeds to go the charity. Many thanks to the golf staff and our golf superintendent, our administrative staff and our food and beverage staffs for the great effort they put in to helping with all aspects of the arrangements and making these events so successful. Special thanks to our chairperson, Marjorie Feld and her co-chairs, M L Cocci, Andrea Finkel, and Robin Kimball, pictured below with Beth Hornstein, for planning and organ izing the enjoyable events. The success of this event, which raised over $170,000, is due to the generosity of OUR members. FRENCHMANS CREEK PLAYS FOR P.I.N.K. Ladies Golf Member - Guest

By MIMI BERGEL The first Ladies Golf Member-Guest event of the 2023-2024 season was held on Thursday, February 1. The day started with registration and a huge buffet breakfast at the Pavillion, with so very many offerings. Due to the uncooperative weather, the starting time was delayed until 10:00, with all groups playing nine holes. There was a wonderful participation of 44 groups, more than covering all four nine hole courses, with guests coming from 46 different clubs. The theme was Butterflies and Birdies, and everything was loaded with beautiful multicolor butterflies, including the menus, programs, favors and decorations. Every one received crowns covered with so many beautiful butterflies. Unfortunately, for the golfers, there weren’t a lot of birdies!! This was even though everyone was given a sheet showing the hole locations and distances from the center on all holes. There were special events in each of the four flights – designated holes for straightest drive and closest to the hole – different ones for members and guests. The day concluded in a fabulously decorated Pavilion, with a wonderful buffet, highlighted by a lobster station and including several soups, many salads and several main course choices, and concluding with an assortment of desserts. Many thanks to our wonderful golf and food and beverage staffs for their cooperation and effort. Congratulation to Co-chairs Suzanne Moskow and Linda Robins and their committee who did a super and memorable job.

Nine kind - hearted members of Frenchman ’ s Creek participated in the Literacy Coalitions' "Read with Me Project." The Frenchman's Creek Volunteer Match Program organized our involvement. The morning began at 9 am at Allamanda Elementary School. members had been given guidelines for reading and creating the craft project for the book "Nigel and the Moon." We each read to small groups of either kindergarten children or to students with special needs.

The "Read with Me" project takes place 4 times a year and this project was supported by a grant from our Frenchman ’ s Creek Charity Foundation. Those who participated agreed that the time spent with these delightful children was meaningful and so much FUN! We thank: Andrea Finkel, Judy Goldsmith Margie Gottfried, Paula Israel, Patty Raber, Roz Nissman Joan Sclar, Barbara Stern, and Carol West for their dedication and participation.

MY MORNINGS WITH THE LADIES (AND JERRY) I am a product of NYC, born and raised; which means I ’ m tough. I ’ m 68 now and if anyone had told me years ago that I would spend 2 - 3 days a week doing morning water aerobics with the ladies, I ’ d ask them what they were smoking. But about 2 years ago my lovely wife comes to me and says “ I think we should try water aerobics; it ’ s an activity we can do together. ” Of course under my breath I ’ m saying no way, no how; but like any good, smart husband I say “ sure dear; anything you want ”. So off we go to water aerobics. Chris our full of life instruc tor leads the pack of the loveliest and nicest ladies any one at FC can find. They take me in and treat me as one of their own as I ’ m the only guy except wonderful Jerry who picks out the greatest Rock and Roll music to aerobic to. Who would ever have thought that I would look forward to seeing everyone and doing water aerobics at 8am or so. The ladies tolerate my cra ziness and we all aerobic along. Lest you think that real men don ’ t eat quiche or do water aer obics, I defy any guy to do it and not feel it afterwards. As my father used to say, I feel no pain when you go the dentist. (No offense to dentists!) Come on guys give it a try. You might be surprised at how much you might like it. Bobby Vilensky

NO THIS IS NOT AN OSPREY!!

This majestic adult bald eagle was seen on thursday afternoon, February 1st, sitting on the bank of the 5th green south. it was squawking at an osprey. It then took off to a neighboring tree where these pictures were taken. The bald eagle has been seen infrequently at Frenchman’s. I personally have seen one here maybe 10 times in the 33 years that we have lived here. at one time there was a nesting pair at the bears club. Not to be confused with an osprey, the eagle has a pure white head, a solid black body, and an all white tail. enjoy the birds.

Beach Club Cabaret Night with Michael Cavanaugh - Singer, Actor, Musician

The third Cabaret Night was held, Monday, February 5 and it proved to be a treat be yond words. From the moment, Michael entered the stage, his charisma and energy wowed the capacity crowd. His musicality showed with his great voice, superb piano playing and show

manship. Billy Joel handpicked Michael to star in the Broadway Musical Moving Out. He was made famous for his piano playing and lead vocals in the show. He appeared with the show it's entire three year run with more than 1300 hundred performances as well as receiving individual Grammy and Tony award nominations. He has been honored by Billboard as "The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook." At the Cabaret he celebrated the music of a variety of artists including Billy Joel, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Jerry Lee Lewis and Frankie Valli among others. His audience appeal and interaction were contagious as he encouraged and welcomed the audience to sing along and had everyone rocking and rolling to his beat which made for an evening of fun, and great enjoyment. Chef Rico and his assistant Max and the culinary team prepared a delicious varied Cuban themed buffet. Cindy working with Gina and T.K, once again planned and organized the perfect event. The last Cabaret event of the season is on Monday, March 25 featuring Jayne Curry, an amazing performer with a great voice. There is no better way to end a great Cabaret series of events.

Ned Dorman - The Beach Boys Ned Dorman returned to Frenchman's Creek on Monday, February 12 and gave a fabulous presen tation on the Beach Boys. Through a series of video clips, Ned shared with us the Triumph and Tragedy of one of the most critically

acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time. Ned took us back in time and brought wonderful memories of our youth through the music of the Beach Boys.

An overflowing crowd was thrilled by his finale where he played a stirring video of

their most famous song "God Only Knows." In this video there were musi cians and singers from every genre of music who came together in literal harmony to cover one of the greatest songs of all time. It was a truly amazing ending to a glorious evening of music and memories. The entire staff did a superb job. Executive Chef Tim and Executive Sous Chef Alex and their culinary staff prepared a wonderful buffet with varied food choices that were delicious. Many thanks to the entire food and beverage staff under the direction of David Kent, Marco, and Carolina. Special recognition to Martina, our Director of Special Events, who executed the perfect event.

We look forward to welcoming Ned back next season for another presentation. Our next entertainment event will be at the Pavilion on Thursday. February 29 featuring "The Shades of Bubble" where a trio of singers will perform songs made famous by Michael Bubble.

Because of weather conditions, the PGA Shootout was not held last year. This year more than made up for it with a perfect spring day, cool. slight wind , sunny and not a cloud in the sky. The lovely day began at the Starter ’ s Shack with grilled hot dogs and of course all the trimmings. The format was Stroke play with 16 players playing the first 4 holes of the south course in separate foursomes. The 8 players with the lowest scores on the first 4 holes advanced to the 5th hole. On the 5th Hole, 2 players were eliminated, then 1 player eliminated on each hole until there are 2 players remaining on the 9th hole. The first foursome to tee off was, James Weardon, Ross Clewley, JR Congdon, who had his daughter as his caddy, and Todd Kitchen. The next foursome was Andrew Coleman, Jack Aston, Owen Clarke, William Capstick. The third foursome was Will Jones, Chris Horn, Luis Leon, Stacy Collins. The last group was Jose Caeiro, Dan Lynch, Bella Modisha, Kim Augusta. The 8 players advancing after 4 holes were: Ross, J.R., Owen, William, Will, Chris, Stacy and Dan. The 5 th hole saw William and Stacy eliminated. The 6 th hole saw Chris and Dan eliminated and the 7th hole J.R. was eliminated and the 8 th hole Will was eliminated leaving Ross and Owen. They each had a par on Number 9 and had to go back to the tee for a second round. Ross landed near the hole and Owen ’ s drive was on the hill above the hole. Ross birdied the hole to be declared as WINNER OF THE 2024 PGA SHOOTOUT. Congratulations to Ross and Owen as runner - up and to all the participants who gave us a day of superb golf played by all. As the Shoot Out ended, just a few steps from poolside at the Fitness Center, the crowd descended en masse, hungry and thirsty (even though there were plenty of drinks on the course both soft and hard ) to be greeted by drinks and proceeded to a great selection of delicious varied bites!
