APRIL 2023 edition Highlighting the news and events of MARCH 2023

SECOND LADIES MEMBER GUEST The second ladies member - guest tournament of the 2022 - 2023 season was held on Thursday morning, March 2, with a wonderful turnout of nearly 200 women from more than forty different clubs. Co - chairs Shelley Parker and Robin Rosenblatt came up with a great idea for the day. The Construction theme was so timely and so fitting for Frenchman’s Creek these days. All the staff wore safety reflection jackets (and many members, too), and construction equipment, warning and caution signs and cones were everywhere (as in a lot of areas here). Each golfer received a dozen golf balls and a custom made head cover, created on - line ahead of time, which was personally designed. The huge John Deere in front of the Pavilion looked right at home. Each foursome took a picture on the

driver’s seat posing with a muscular construction worker. The day started with a mulƟ - station breakfast buffet with many choices, including various egg dishes, smoked salmon and breakfast sandwiches. After breakfast, the large number of participants, more than covering both courses, were divided into four flights and teed off to play a shamble format tournament. AŌer golf there was an extensive buīet lunch in the very imaginaƟvely decorated Pavilion. A drink staƟon out front welcomed everyone back into a room sƟll Įlled with warning signs and cones. On every table, for each player, was a 73 piece Lego construcƟon kit, the picture

taken on the John Deere and beauƟful Ňoral centerpieces, some in metal lunchboxes and some in Tonka trucks. CauƟon ribbons were wrapped around each chair on which there was an addiƟonal giŌ of a 39 piece tool kit accompanied by a lovely welcoming and thank you poem (pictured above). There were mulƟple salad staƟons. Eight diīerent entrée staƟons ranged from Subway sandwiches to briskets and lobsters. The dessert buīet was fabulous – with a dozen imaginaƟve and delicious choices. A guitar player and singer provided enjoyable entertainment. ConƟnued on page 3

Many thanks are sent to Stacey for arranging all the giŌs, and MarƟna for all the eīort and help she put in. And, of course, a big thank you to the food and beverage staī and the golf staī for all they did to make the day smooth running and successful. Shelley and Robin did a wonderful job, providing everyone with another memorable day. ConƟnued on page 7

SADIE HAWKINS DAY The Sadie Hawkins Day tournament, on Sunday, February 26, was again a fun and successful day. Ladies could pick any partner, male or female, as long as it wasn’t a spouse or significant other. There were both nine hole players and eighteen hole players, with a 1:00 pm shotgun start for the eighteen holers and a 3:00 pm shotgun start for the nine holers. Organized into groups of four, they were divided into three flights on both courses. The format was changed every six holes to make it more fun and special. It was best ball for six holes, scramble for six and alternate shots for six. For the nine holers it was three holes each. Following golf was a “Burgers and Beers” reception with lots of food and drink to enjoy. There was a barbeque at the Golf Café with many different types of burgers, such as regular, tuna and veggie, as well as well as other food, including hot dogs and onion rings. Different kinds of IPA beers were in buckets on the tables. Tournament co - chairs Dottie Kovel and Bonnie Shyer planned and organized a lovely and enjoyable day. Ladies Club Championship This season’s Ladies Club championship was a three day event. Prior to the tournament, the qualifying round was held on Tuesday, February 20. The ladies were then paired and the winner in each pairing continued to the next round. There were three flights – one nine hole flight and two eighteen hole flights. The first round of the tournament itself was on Tuesday morning, March 7 and the semi - final round was on Thursday morning, March 9. The final round was in the afternoon Saturday, March 11. Congratulations to all the winners listed on next page.

A Season of Great Entertainment! Andrea Ja y son Members of Frenchman’s Creek have had the benefit of memorable entertainment this season. From awesome Cabaret Nights and an awesome Studio 54 dance party to a spectacular line-up of Headliner events. Kicking off the Headliner events series was the return of the fantastic Bronx Wanderers direct from their Las Vegas residency. The staff outdid themselves with an excellent Italian-themed evening with delicious foods reminiscent of the Bronx, while the Bronx Wanderer had residents up and dancing in the aisles. The next super-star event was hosted by off-Broadway magic sensation Asi Wind. He astounded members with his unique and confounding array of tricks that left all of us wondering how on earth he did that! Dinner was an assort ment of unique and delicious hearty appetizers – the chef and staff once again did a great job! A saxophonist player accompanied the cocktail hour which created a fun and clubby vibe for members, and then an upbeat DJ ended the night with open bar and desserts being served on the Pavilion terrace. Jarrod Spector was next up on the Headliner calendar. A Broadway veteran from shows including Jersey Boys and Beautiful: the Carole King musical, among others, Spector entertained the club with his vast array of songs from Broad-way and beyond. The members enjoyed his “Jukebox Life” music that included songs from his past award winning performances to familiar hits from Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney. The food and staff did a great job in bringing this event to life! As a committee, one of our goals was to appeal to a wide variety of age groups and to bring all of us together. In the end, we know that we have an awesome community and we can agree that fun, creative and uplifting entertainment can really bridge the gap of our ages and diversity of opinions. We hope members enjoyed these Headliner events and look forward to bringing more unique and upbeat talent next season! On January 27, 2023, Frenchman’s Creek Beach Club welcomed a packed house to hear Suzanne O. Davis entertain us with her presentation of songs by Carole King. A pianist and flutist, Suzanne gave a terrific performance to a very ap-preciative crowd at our Cabaret evening. Chef Alex and his staff, with direction from manager Cindy and her assistant, Gina, presented a wonderful buffet of dinner foods that harkened back to what we thought Carole and her friends might love. Our fabulous staff made our evening a “ten”! We switched from music to comedy for our next Cabaret on February 27, with New York comedian Adam Ferrara performing for us. Adam’s professional experience spans the spectrum, from stand up comedy to television drama (Rescue Me) to reality TV (Top Gear). A special surprise was comedian Phil Tag, a friend of Adam’s, who gave a brief opening act. The dinner buffet featured foods from New York, including a wonderful selection of Chinese dishes (better that the best Chinese restaurants around here!), Italian dishes and other New York favorites. Again, our Chef Alex and his remarkable staff helped to make the evening memorable. Cindy, Gina and their staff are terrific! Jeri Jacobs & Barbara Field, co - chairs

Communities and organizations in need and extremely grateful for the help. Dear Fellow Members: The Grievance CommiƩee is probably the only commiƩee at Frenchman's Creek who hopes we never have a reason to meet. In a perfect world, there’d be no reported cases of member misconduct, and we’d never have to recommend disciplinary measures. Unfortunately, that isn’t reality. SituaƟons do arise, and when they do we’re called upon to handle them fairly and expediƟous ly. The mission of the Grievance CommiƩee is explicit: to “protect and promote the community’s standard of collegiality and fairness.” We believe that’s criƟcal to member enjoyment and to maintaining a Įrst - rate environment, and we therefore take our responsibility very seriously. As the new Įscal year begins for the Board of Governors and the commiƩees, it’s a good Ɵme to request that members ac quaint themselves with the Code of Conduct and Grievance Process and Guidelines, which were just amended last December. In the hope of minimizing future problems, I would like to reiterate a few of the important rules with respect to member con duct.

No Member or guest may be verbally or physically abusive or otherwise engage in conduct that is threatening or harassing to the staī or any member.

No Member shall interact with a staī member in a manner which is disrupƟve to or otherwise has an adverse impact on the AssociaƟon’s operaƟons.

No Member or guest may threaten a staī member or threaten a staī member’s job.

No Member or guest may engage in behavior that is disrupƟve or interferes with the reasonable enjoyment of the AssociaƟon faciliƟes by any Member or guest.

There are a host of other oīenses enumerated in the Code of Conduct as well as the By - Laws, including the sancƟons for vari ous speeding violaƟons. While we fully recognize that it’s not always clear exactly what consƟtutes things like ‘verbal abuse’ or ‘disrupƟve behavior,’ please note that the Grievance CommiƩee will interpret those Rules with an eye towards protecƟng the staī and the collegiality of the club.

Sincerely,

Mark Jacobs Chair, Grievance CommiƩee
