Eighty members had a real “trick or treat party” on October 27 eating, drinking, and dancing the night away. Many thanks to Judy Konigsberg, Ethel Schultz and their committee; Martina, Ashish and all the staff at Food and Beverage for planning and decorating this wonderful event. Once again, Bernd our chef, was very creative with his culinary skills. Some delicious dishes included were “Frankenstein Caesar Salad”, “eyeball caprese salad”, “spooky kale salad”, “road kill olive chicken”, “headless shrimp cantonese” “death by chocolate cake”, and “scary cookies” to name just a few. The theme this year was to come as a couple, or a famous person and many members were especially creative this year. Linda and Steve Epstein were dressed as a gangster and his mol from the Roaring Twenties, and Jeri and Norman Jacobs came as pirates. Once again, Jan Tighe did a remarkable make up job, and she and Chris were Raggedy Ann and Andy. Marleen Hacker and Allan Eisinger came as the Adam’s Family, only Allan dressed as Morticia and Marleen as Gomez. “Mickey D”, Bill Coleman, and Keith Lang, the DJ’s that night, played all of our favorite music from the 70’s. They never took a break, and members never took a break off the dance floor. Everyone had fun dancing and singing and reminiscing.

Congratulations to our third place winners Connie and Michael Forman, who were so adorable and dressed as “Wilma and Fred Flintstone”.

Lynn and Barry Byrd, made a cute “Bavarian” couple and were dressed for Octoberfest in their Lederhosen attire and came in second place.

Judy and Paul Konigsberg deserve first place for dressing courageously in tights and a fig leaf, as “Adam and Eve”.

Norma Lippman researched and wrote this wonderful article about “Giving Back” at this Thanksgiving season. Most of the people at Frenchman's have children, and none of them are ordinary. They are all extra-ordinary. Please meet Mark Bergel, son of MIMI and DICK BERGEL. Mark was recently inducted into the Montgomery County, (Maryland) Business Hall of Fame. In 2001, Dr. Mark was teaching at American University. He volunteered with his students to deliver food to families living in need in our nation's capital region. He found himself in apartment after apartment where there were no beds, dressers, tables or other furniture - and where families were living with little or no access to the information and support readily available to others. With no seed money, but a strong conviction that we could do better for those living in poverty, he converted his living room into a nonprofit office and founded A Wider Circle, which today is housed in a huge warehouse. To date, the organization has served more than 200,000 children and adults and currently hosts more than 30,000 volunteers every year. To learn more, go to Google. This most recent honor is just one of many recognizing this extraordinary man and his contribution to humanity. In addition, the week after Thanksgiving, Mark was inducted into the 2018 Class of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Human Rights Hall of Fame.

Meet our new Assistant Supervisor of our Fitness and Spa, JOSEPH MCNAMARA. Joseph has been in the spa industry for 16 to 17 years. Before enter- ing the spa industry, he wasa ballet dancer with the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. After that, he started as a massage therapist and went to a spa manager of two country clubs prior to coming to Frenchman’s. What brought him to Frenchman’s literally was a knock on the door offering him his present position. Joseph is thrilled to be with us and is looking forward to helping Marisol keep the high stand- ards of our facility in addition to keeping our fitness center current with the changing technology of fitness and spa facilities.

Callaway, Florida is a suburb of Panama City. It is 9.6 square miles and has about 14,405 people living in 5,541 households. The median income for a household is $36,064, and Hurricane Michael just about leveled Callaway. Palm Beach Gardens responded by creating "Operation Sister City.” The aim was to help public employees who were first responders after the storm along with police officers and firefighters. Frenchman's Creek was asked through our Volunteer Match program to join the

effort and though we only had a few days notice, a respectable amount of requested supplies were collected and added to the caravan of police cars, tractor trailers and a truck that left City Hall loaded with donations for people many of whom have lost their homes. HENRICK, named after the Prince of Denmark, is a 7 month old English Lab who presently weighs 65 pounds. He is the dog of MARIANNE and MARTY WINICK. He was born in Wisconsin and was a gift from their son, Jon. They have always had dogs and are happy to bring Henrick into their family. He is very friendly and loves going to visit his new friends in the dog park.

We are dog people. And we’ve loved each one 100 percent. But they never live long enough and so, because our beloved Cappy died in April, this fall, Ted- dy came to live with us. Cappy was a Yorkie/Pom and Teddy is a Morkie. He came to us through The Pet Cottage and is 5 years old. His former owner can no longer care for him, so he needed a new home. He came house trained, crate trained and very very cuddly. He loves the golf cart, people and other dogs. Cats, not so much. He doesn’t shed, has lots of energy and sleeps at the foot of the bed (that took some negotiating). When you adopt a rescued dog, you avoid a lot of puppy issues and you see what size and personality you are getting. Teddy is a perfect fit for us.

The Homefront column is designed to inform our members where in the community our new residents are living and other residences they may have. It also keeps up with our present members who have stayed in the community but moved to new dwellings.

Of course we always wish our members who are moving out of the community good luck wherever their travels take them and our new members and established members good luck in their new address.

JONATHAN NELSON, our latest person to have a hole-in-one, literally as we went to press, had it on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. It was on number 11 of the South Course. The hole played at 108 yards and he used a 9 iron.

MYNA HOMBURGER had a hole-in-one on Saturday November 10th on hole 11 of the South Course. It played at 98 yards and she used what else an 11 wood!

PATTY ANNUNZIATA had her hole-in -one on Thursday, October 25th on number 15 of the North Course. It played at 104 yards and she used a 7 hybrid.

WENDY DINNER had a hole-in-one on Thursday, November 1st on num- ber 13 of the North Course. It played at 90 yards and she used a 5 Hybrid.

RUTH STAVISKY had her hole-in-one on Sunday, November 11th on hole number 6 of the North Course. It played at 85 yards and she used a 4 hybrid.

MAX BOTEL had a hole-in-one on Friday, November 23rd on the 13th Hole of the North Course. He used a 7 hybrid for the 110 yards.

“Security Presentation with Mark Hall”

By Marleen Hacker A private women’s discussion group, better known as “Flipside”, meets monthly. The mem- bers take turns planning interesting topics, such as watching a film and then discussing it, or intro- duction to yoga at the Fitness Center, or a Cooking Class with the Chef, or learning about orchids from Mario, Frenchman’s Creek in-house florist. Last month, Mark Hall, who has served as the Director of Safety and Security at Frenchman’s Creek Beach and Country Club, gave us an informative hands on presentation on our personal security. For the next 2 hours there were many questions, tips, and scenarios. Some examples in- clude: what to do in an elevator if you feel threatened. What do you do if you are being followed in your car or get a flat tire. Should you carry pepper spray, or take a self defense class, or how to walk to your car at night when at the mall. However, the most valuable lesson we learned was to be alert and be aware of our surroundings, and not bury our head in the phone. Mr. Hall retired as a Chief of Police after having served 22 years as a law enforcement pro- fessional. He has impressive credentials, ( too many to list in this article), and we at Frenchman’s are most fortunate to have him working here since 2012. Our community is considered one of the safest in the nation due to its use of the most technologically advanced thermal imaging cameras and video analytics, security culture, concierge service and policy and procedures.

LADIES OPENING DAY GOLF AND LUNCHEON

The FCLGA opening day tournament for the 2018-2019 season was again played on Election Day, which this year was November 6. Once again the pleasant weather provided another plus for a delightful day. The format was a nine hole step-aside scramble, with teams of four divided into four flights. With a wonderful turnout, 38 teams more than covered both courses. Golf was followed by a shopping boutique and a lovely luncheon, which was also attended by additional members who were not able to take part in the tournament. Following a crudite buffet, everyone was served a refreshing watermelon salad, with an extensive buffet on each table containing enough choices to please everyone. The wonderful Graeter’s black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream topped off a delicious luncheon. Wendy Adler, FCLGA chair, greeted and welcomed everyone, and introduced the board members and new members. Todd introduced this season’s new caddies. JR reviewed and showed a video of the new golf rules and announced the day’s winners. Everyone received a dozen golf balls, a golf glove and a book with the new golf rules and definitions. Luncheon co-chairs Ellen Lattman and Suzanne Speiser did a wonderful job of planning and executing everything. The tournament went smoothly thanks to the great golf staff. Again Chef Bernd and our wonderful office, dining and golf shop staffs did an outstanding job to complete a very successful day.

A ladies member-staff golf mixer was played on Thursday, November 15, with teams of four ladies plus a golf pro participating in an 18 hole competition on the North course. The format was a step-aside scramble, with teams divided into 2 flights. It was delightful playing with our wonderful golf staff. “ Slow down to see the world” is the phrase Butterfield and Robinson uses to describe the bicycle trips that they arrange.

Whether we want to slow down or not after 27 bike trips around this world, our bikes are moving slower. We are pumping just as hard but the bikes are just not going as fast. However, the landscapes we see are just as beautiful. This fall, we flew to Portugal for the first time and really enjoyed this beautiful country on a bicycle. It was still quite warm and we rode usually from about 8:30 or 9 until 2 P.M. After lunch it was just too warm to ride but the hotels B&R arrange are usually excellent and sitting around the pool and swimming was not too much of a sacrifice.

Our son, daughter-in-law, daughter (her husband is a lawyer and had an important case and had to cancel) and another friend joined us along with 14 other very nice bikers.
