A DAY OF JOY for HERB GLATT and SANDY SALZ At the Walker Cup, May 9, 2021.

The Walker Cup is a competition between amateur men’s teams from the United States and the British Isles , held biennially since 1922 on sites alternating between the United States and Britain . The cup is named for George H. Walker, a president of the United States Golf As- sociation (USGA) in the 1920s and a primary organizer of the event, who happens to be the great grandfather of President Bush. Contests consist of four 18-hole foursome (partners taking alternate shots) matches and eight 18-hole singles matches on each of two days, with one point awarded to the winning side in each match. Teams of eight players, two alternates, and a captain are selected by the USGA and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews .

This year, the Cup was held close to home at the Seminole Golf Course in Juno Beach. Sandy was lucky to get two tickets of a literally 3 minute internet sale. The men had a fabulous, thrilling day with the drinks and lunch part of the ticket and watching the young amateurs, perhaps promising pros, of the future. A number of Pros past and present have waited to go professional if the Cup was being played right before they committed. The ages of the men range from 18-22 and then 28-30. The length of the holes, the ever changing ocean winds, the sand dunes and their heights plus the elevation of some greens, the lightening fast greens, and a mostly tight grass and sandy course make Seminole very challenging. It was fierce competition, but the fans were cordial, rooting for the player of a great shot, and mostly noted was how unbelievable the players got out of the sand traps. Talking to Herb and Sandy, you could hear in their voice, and the replay of the day, that it was truly a day of joy with how much they enjoyed the gracious staff of Seminole and just being there.

On May 14, NANETTE TAUSCHER, celebrated a milestone birthday at her children, Ronni and Ralph Grebow’s home. Her grandchildren Samantha Fliegler and Jonathan Grebow represented the other 7 family members in New Jersey. It was a magical night !
