JANUARY 2023 edition Highlighting the news and events of D ecember 2022

Editor ’ s note: We apologize for the belatedness of this edition but wanted all the wonderful happenings of December , excluding the holiday happenings, to be included. Happy Healthy New Year to all our members, guests and staff.

Did you notice how different and special this year ’ s holiday lights were ? There were more trees lit up upon entering our complex and the leaves of the palms were lit this year. Also , did you ever wonder who is responsible for all this display ? Steve Thomson, Director of Landscaping, is responsible for the holiday lighting every year. He tells us that Bernie Polselli and h im start with the preparations in June prior to the lighting needs, they inventory, plan and design new areas to enhance the experience ; review, budget, place all orders for lighting and supplies, and for him , the stress of completing the lighting display. This year Steve was on target for lighting the holiday lights on Thanksgiving , but unfortunately they had the high winds from hurricane Ian that severely damaged many of the existing newly installed lighting on the royal palms on Tournament Drive that had to be redone. They have added a few more highlights to improve the lighting experience , especially at the front entrance. He's so proud of Bernie, him self , and his staff for the completion of this extremely difficult task , especially since all of their other duties must be continued without delay. I hope that the holiday lighting installation gives the residents of Frenchman ’ s the happy holiday feeling. By the way, Steve and his staff have done the holiday lighting for the past 12 years.

Thank you to Brad Daley and Tom Wozniak for these photos of the lights

If you enjoyed the holiday lights , please mention it to the administrative staff.

KATHY AZEEZ entered her two quilts to the Daytona Beach Quilt , February 22 to the 25th , and they were accepted which is an honor just to be able to show your work. ' I entered 2 quilts into the show, and they both got accepted. One is named “ Purple Passion ”, and the other is “ Log Cabin Rendezvous ”.

The purple quilt, “ Purple Passion ”, was machine pieced , a little appliqué, and free - motion machine quilted.

The yellow quilt ,‘ Log Cabin Rendezvous ”, was machine pieced, a little appliquéd, and I hired someone (Barbara Logulio) to machine quilt it on a long - arm machine, as it fits a king sized bed. I use d the computer program called “ Electric Quilt 8”, to help design them both. '

Each year at the Frenchman ’ s Creek Employees Annual Holiday Party, they all have to bring an unwrapped toy which is collected for “ Toys for Tots ” for the U.S. Marines. This year it was held on Monday, December 5th. Over 200 toys were collected and brought to the Town of Juno Beach for pick up by the U.S. Marines! Thank you Team Frenchman ’ s Creek! JAMIE DIAMOND WRITE S US:

Congratulations to the best new grandparents, MARLA KAUFMAN and KEN BEZOZO, and first - time great grandfather, BOB KAUFMAN, on welcoming Blake Juliette Diamond (L) and Olivia James Selarnick R) to the family! First grandchild Olivia James was born on July 29, 2022 in New York City. She is the daughter of Dana Bezozo Selarnick

and Alexander Selarnick (32) who live in Philadelphia with their dog Luna. Five days after Olivia's arrival, Blake Juliette was born on August 3rd, 2022 in Santa Monica, California. Best friends and cousins Blake and Olivia met each other and their two - year - old cousin, Abey Benziane, over Thanksgiving at Frenchman's Creek, a sentimental place for their family. The Bezozo family is thrilled to be continuing the tradition of making new memories with the next generation of children at Frenchmans!

The first cabaret of the 2022 - 2023 season was held Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Beach Club. Co - chairs Barbara Field and Jeri Jacobs worked with Cindy (Beach Club manager) to change the format to heavy hors d ’ oeuvres and dessert, rather than the usual sit down dinner. Entertainment was provided by Steve Maglio, a big band and cabaret singer who specializes in songs sung by Frank Sinatra. Comments from several of the members were rave reviews. Steve gave us a great show and the food was selected based on what Frank Sinatra would have chosen. Chef Alex gave us a wonderful selection of small bites and a delicious dessert.

Steve was so well received everyone stayed till the very end of his performance and left singing.

The second Beach Club Cabaret event of the season was on Monday, December 12. Our featured performer was Chris Ruggerio who wowed the audience with his rendi tions of songs from the 1950's,60's,and 70's.The room was filled to capacity and Chris received a very well deserved standing ovation. Speaking to Chris after the show he said he loved the intimacy of the Cabaret setting and the enthusiasm of the audience. Hosting the event were Barbara Field and Jeri Jacobs, under the direction of Cindy, Beach Club Manager. Gina, T.K, and the entire staff did a magnificent job on the execution of the event. Chef Alex and his culinary team once again put their creative talents on display. The presentation and selection of food choices looked great and how delicious they were.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS NOW FOR Our next CABARET which is MONDAY, JANUARY 30th at the Beach Club , featuring Suzanne O Davis singing Carole King ’ s songs from her album, Tapestry, and other songs written by Carole and her husband, Gerry Goffin.

Hello from Alan Shapiro and Kimberly Allis. We have recently moved onto Verdun Drive- Alan from Rum son, New Jersey and Kim from Rye, New York. In addition to Alan’s two sons (Zachary, 16, and Jonah, 15) and Kim’s daughter and son (Chiara, 20, and Caleb, 19), there are three pooches hanging around the house. Coco Chanel is a 7 year old 4 pound long-haired Chihuahua smuggled out of Paris as a baby in a fancy handbag. Ricky Sanchez (aka The Fat Sausage) is the 5 year old 15 pound long-haired Chihuahua, who should probably weigh more like 8 pounds, but he seems to be enjoying the Florida lifestyle a bit too much. Lastly, Rocco Bear is the 2 year old 35 pound Mini American Shepherd who

likes to spend his days catching frisbees on the Jupiter dog beach. All of us, human and canine, are loving Frenchman’s so far and we greatly appreciate the warm wel come from everyone here.

Oh My MIMI BERGEL who writes this column had her name omitted from the article and that she was the correspondent. Our apologies MIMI, you are gracious.

The official opening tournament of the Frenchman's Creek Ladies Golf Association 2022 - 2023 season was held on Tuesday, November 1. Despite a slight rain storm just before the tournament, the weather was just beautiful. It was a lovely day for a very enjoyable event, in which 136 ladies participated. The teams were divided into four groups, one playing on each nine. The format, as usual, was a nine - hole ABCD step - aside scramble, with everyone putting. After golf, the opening day luncheon was held at the Pavilion. Following a delicious soup, there was a wonderful, extensive buffet with so many choices from a salad bar and entrees, and ending with a luscious variety of desserts. Chef Ernesto and our super food and beverage staff provided a great meal. Special thanks to Martina and David for the wonderful luncheon. At the end of the luncheon, the winning teams were announced and they are listed below. As usual, the golf staff did a super job of organizing the tournament and getting everyone off so smoothly. Thanks to Kim and JR as well as Chris, Will, Rocco and Todd and the rest of the staff. And special thanks go to Dottie Kovel and Bonnie Shyer for their planning and making all the arrangements for such a great and successful day, and to Sue Shaw and Carol West for making all the arrangements for the super luncheon.

In the news:

ANN BROWN knew she was going to be interviewed by the Palm Beach Post because of friend ship of over 30 years, but never expected to be on the FRONT PAGE let alone the the Christmas

edition. The Post learned about Ann ’ s and Nancy

Hart ’ s unusual friendship of 30 years and wanted to

Impart In this day and age if political volatility, that

an ardent Democrat and an ardent Republican can

be best of friends. Ann mentions in the article and

seconded by Nancy that they can discuss politics in

a civilized manner. This is because they have a

mutual respect of each other ’ s thoughts, the same

common interests and of course share and

discuss more than politics. As they discuss

the topics of today, immigration, abortion, or

presidential politics, they agree on nothing but

never let their philosophies and beliefs get in the way of their friendship . They respect each other ’ s thinking and then … get onto the real subject — What are we going to order for dinner!
