system for the organization that will allow us to stay on top of our repairs and maintenance needs moving forward. Santiago has made great progress in all of these areas, and more recently has also taken on the responsibility of overseeing the Operations and IT Departments. John Zaloom was the next person to join the team in the role of CFO, a position he has held for many years, along with being a CPA. Since his first day here, John and his team have been hard at work to bring our financial systems and processes to the next level. One of John’s initial goals is to ensure the Board, Finance Committee, and the community as a whole receive monthly financial data in a more intuitive and effective manner, and we look forward to having those templates in place before the season starts. In addition, John is working with the Construction Committee to improve the effectiveness of our financial reporting for the clubhouse project, along with cashflow projections that will make sure we manage our cash reserves and loan to the best possible effect. He is also working with the management team to develop a robust monthly cost center review process, and more effective reforecasting. Next to join us was Tim Recher, in the position of Executive Chef. As I have said before, food is arguably the most important thing to get right in this business, and my vision is that it will be our point of differentiation moving forward. Tim is a world-class chef, and his impact has already been felt by the members. As I mentioned above, there are still some consistency issues that Tim and David need to work through, but I am absolutely confident that they will do so, and that you will all enjoy the results of their efforts for many years to come. Joining us the same week as Tim was Bill Schmit, Director of Agronomy. Bill is a Certified Golf Course Superintendent who was recently named Superintendent of the Year in the North Florida region. Bill has been carefully evaluating his staff, our practices, the equipment fleet, and our future capital needs. As with all areas of the club, there will be a need for major capital improvements to the golf facilities in the fullness of time, and in the meantime Bill’s focus (and that of everyone on my team) is on continually improving the member experience. I am confident you will see some noticeable improvements on the courses this season, but it will take years of doing the right thing consistently for us to start to deliver the kind of course conditions that a club and community of our stature should be known for. Finally, just because I have focused this message on the newer members of my team, I want to be clear that I am equally grateful for the valuable contributions made every day by those who have tenure here and are continuing to run their departments with professionalism and a tireless commitment to member service, including Bernie Polselli (POA, Security, & Landscaping), Cindy Teyssedou (Beach Club), JR Congdon (Golf Operations), Tikky Srieud (Racquet Sports), Paula Begel (Fitness Center & Spa), Dellesa Kirk-Johnson (Human Resources), and Deanna Usiadek (Marketing & Communications). Providing a great (and ever-improving) member experience is truly a team effort, and all the members of this amazing team should be recognized. In closing, I went on record last season saying that the biggest failing of my first year was that I did not spend as much time as I would have liked in our daily operations, which deprived me of the opportunity of interacting more regularly with all of you. Please know that is something I am committed to doing much more of this season, and I am very much looking forward to seeing all of you in the Pavilion and around the community. In the meantime, please enjoy this 2023-24 edition of the Season Handbook. As I’m sure you’ll agree, there is a lot to look forward to!
