GOLF
Dear Frenchman’s Creek Members, In my mind, October marks the beginning of the golfing season. Therefore, I want to update you all on the golf happenings right around the corner. Tuesday, October 17, is the season’s first Frenchman’s Creek Ladies Golf Association (FCLGA) event. To participate in any of the FCLGA events, members must submit an application along with applicable dues payment prior to participating. The FCLGA hosts both 18-hole and 9-hole events, and players of all skill levels are encouraged to join, not only for the competition but also for the camaraderie. Signups will be handled via the FC website or app; when viewing the calendar online, click the link for whatever date you want to participate, and register. *Special Note: October 31st is the opening day of golf and luncheon. Sunday, October 22, is our first Couple’s Member Staff Golf and Dinner. This is a member- staff event and a make-your own foursome, one of the Club staff will join your group for a fun day with a 12:45 pm shotgun start followed by dinner. The format is Step-Aside-Scramble. Sign up online via the FC website or app. Friday, October 27, is the season’s first Nine, Wine, and Dine. The theme is Halloween! This is a make-your-own foursome event, followed by dinner. Shotgun starts at 4:30 pm. Registration can be made through the FC website or app. Tuesday, October 31, is Ladies Opening Day. This is an (A, B, C, D) nine-hole event; ladies can sign up individually, and the golf staff will make the pairings. The format is a Step Aside Scramble, 9:30 am shotgun start. Registration can be made through the FC website or app. Save the Dates: Wednesday, November 8, is Men’s Opening Day. This event is (A, B, C, D) a foursome plus a staff member. Registration is easy on the FC website or app; sign up individually, and the golf shop will make the pairings. The format is step aside scramble, 8:30 am shotgun, followed by lunch in the Pavilion. Monday, November 13, we will hold our 6th Annual Veteran’s Day golf event. Last year, over 200 members, both men and ladies, participated, and best of all, we donated 100% of the entry fee ($31,250) to the Homeless Veterans in our local area. This year, we plan on making the
event bigger and better, and we need your help; 100% of the proceeds will go to help Veteran programs in our local area, so please mark your calendars for this special day. Wednesday, November 15, and Friday, November 17, is the Men’s Frenchman’s Cup. This is a great event for our newer members to meet many members all at once. You register individually through the FC website or app. Then players are blindly drawn to four different teams that compete against each other over the two days of competition — more information to come under separate cover. Entries are now open for the 2-day Men’s Member Guest, January 25, 26, and 27, 2024. The format is six two-man teams (Member and Guest) in flights according to handicaps, and there will be six teams per flight. Each team will play a nine-hole match against the other five teams in their flight. The winner of each flight will advance to a shootout to determine the overall champions. The afternoon of January 25 is an optional practice round, followed by a poolside Bar B-Que. Friday, February 26, we will play three nine-hole matches, and on Saturday, February 27, we will play two nine-hole matches followed by the Shootout and awards. This is a really fun event, so I encourage everyone to invite their best friend or favorite golfing partner, so don’t miss out. More details will be sent under separate cover. We are delighted that our entire Professional staff will be back for this upcoming season. Chris Horn, Kim Augusta, Rocco Panzitta, and Todd Kitchen. Will Jones and Luis Leon will be arriving in late October. Bella Modisha, in January 2024. We look forward to Bella rejoining the team. We will also be onboarding seven new golf hospitality trainees in early October from England and South Africa, and we have seven of our current team that will remain for the season and six returning H2B’s who have been working up north for the summer. We look forward to saying “Welcome Home” to all of you very soon. Health and Happiness, J.R. Congdon Director of Golf

MESSAGE FROM SECURITY
OPEN GARAGE DOORS WHEN CHARGING GOLF CARTS
Members may not realize it, but their golf carts could be a ticking time bomb if they charge them inside a garage. That is because the golf cart batteries, especially older ones, emit hydrogen, which is highly flammable. The Palm Beach County Fire Marshall said, “if it doesn’t suffocate you, it can kill you through fire.” Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel are responding to an increasing number of calls in golf-course communities for help in determining why carbon monoxide detectors are being set off. When they arrive, they find the issue is not carbon monoxide; it is hydrogen from the charging of golf carts that has set off the detectors.
The presence of hydrogen is a serious problem. When hydrogen levels reach 4 to 7 percent, hydrogen becomes extremely explosive. Security cannot stress how unsafe it is to walk away and charge a golf cart in a closed garage. Golf carts need to be charged in a well-ventilated area. With hydrogen present, a problem could develop by even touching the garage door switch or garage door light – all of which work off electricity. Golf cart batteries need to be periodically filled with distilled water because water evaporates. If water levels drop too low, hydrogen is emitted. The golf cart units before 2018 do not have safety mechanisms that shut off the charging if the water levels are too low. Hydrogen is very light and can leak into a home through cracks, crevices, and air vents. Once that happens, hydrogen gas can find an open flame, or even static electricity, setting off an explosion. If your carbon monoxide detector is set off, open your garage door manually. We recommend that all our members, have a carbon monoxide detector in your garage/cart storage area, not only to possibly detect excessive battery charging emissions, but also to protect against carbon monoxide poisoning, in case a vehicle is left running inside the garage. Josue Encarnacion, PMP Director of Security Frenchman’s Creek Beach and Country Club DO NOT CHARGE GOLF CARTS IN A CLOSED DOOR ENVIRONMENT.

FC Life October 35
JILL and STEVE KREMER have two reasons to be excited. They have TWIN granddaughters, Juliet and Dolly. They were born on August 2, 2023. The proud parents are Hannah and Will Steen of Green wich, Connecticut. Big brother, Miles, is overjoyed, along with the entire family! Congratulations to all.
How precious are these pictures!
The Homefront column is designed to inform our members where in the community our new residents are living and other residences they may have. It also keeps up with our present members who have stayed in the community but moved to new dwellings. Of course we always wish our members who are moving out of the community good luck wherever their travels take them.
We welcome VALERIE and JEFFREY WILPON who purchased the home of Bud Koff on Redon Drive. They also reside in Greenwich, Connecticut. Ladies, Valerie has a golf handicap of 10! She also enjoys tennis round robins and dinner dances. Jeffrey is Partner of Sterling Project Development, a real estate development and investing company in New York. Gentlemen, Jeffrey, sports a golf handicap of 1 (yes one!) . It is obvious he loves golf. Unlike his wife, he does not play tennis .
