NOVEMBER 2022 edition Highlighting the news and events of OCTOBER 2022
The Homefront column is designed to inform our members where in the community our new residents are living and other residences they may have. It also keeps up with our present members who have stayed in the community but moved to new dwellings. Of course we always wish our members who are moving out of the community good luck wherever their travels take them. We wish all our new members many happy healthy days at the Creek and both our new and established members good luck in their new address.

Introducing Our New Director of Facilities, Engineering, and Construction SANTIAGO GONZALEZ
Upon first meeting Mr. Gonzalez, you are struck by what personable young man he is. After conversing with him for a few minutes you realize he is a highly knowledgeable professional who exudes confidence. Unfortunately, since his domain is the “Back of the House” (behind the scenes), members will probably have little occasion to interact with him, but I was de- lighted to have the opportunity to spend some time with him in preparation for this story
BW What is your background ? SG
I was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia. I have an undergraduate degree in Me- chanical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Engineering Management and Construction. I am also a Certified General Contractor (quite accomplished for a man of his age!) My wife Lorena and I were married in Colombia and moved here together.
BW
Where did you work prior to coming to Frenchman’s Creek?
SG Prior to coming here, I worked at Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables in the same position as here, Director of Engineering. I also was involved in the construction of high end, custom, homes in Miami.
BW
What drew you to work at Frenchman’s Creek?
SG The reputation this club has, as well as the challenge of the new Clubhouse project - I love challenges! ( This is the kind of “new blood” that can get the job done!)
BW What is your exact title and what are your responsibilities? SG Officially I am Director of Facilities, Engineering, and Construction. My responsibility is the maintenance and improvement of all the permanent and temporary facilities associat- ed with Frenchman's Creek.
BW What would you most like to accomplish in your position at Frenchman’s Creek (Santiago liked this question the best!)?
SG My primary goal is for Frenchman’s Creek to have the BEST clubhouse in the indus- try, and upon entering for members and their guests to say WOW! I am also focused on getting my department (currently comprised of 11 employees) better organized going for- ward. Thanks for spending time with me Santiago. I am sure I speak on behalf of all our members in wishing you many years at Frenchman’s and the chance to see your desire of the BEST clubhouse come to fruition! bobbe wiener

The Birding Corner HOT OFF THE PRESSES!
The 2022 - 23 guide to the birds of Frenchman ’ s Creek is now available. Copies are available at the POA Office and the Golf Pro Shop. Many thanks to our Marketing Department for making this happen. In the past year, three new species of birds were identified, which brings the grand total to 85. Two of these, the Black Necked Stilt and the Blue Winged Teal, were seen over several days in or by the pond at 5 South. The Eastern Phoebe was first spotted by my granddaughter Emma sitting quietly in a tree. No doubt there are many more birds to be seen both here and at the beach. Wishing you all some great bird watching this season! Burt Greenberg
PHYLLIS DOPPELT is now a proud great grandmother! Her grandson Bradley and his wife Jessica gave birth to a baby girl named Annie Louise Rachlin. Phyllis ’ son (and Bradley ’ s Father) is Jonathan Rachlin, Bradley has a PhD in Physics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He also attended Vanderbilt as an undergraduate on a full academic scholarship, and gradu- ated number ONE in his class!
PENNY and STEVE WEINBERG are proud to announce the arrival of their first great grandchild, Atara Deena Spirer, born September 29, 2022 at 4 pounds 8 ounces. Mother (Penny and Steve ’ s granddaughter) and baby are both doing wonderfully. Atara ’ s paternal great grandparents are WENDY and MEL DINNER.
