The dance workout that blasts calories and keeps things fun Zumba combines Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system. With classes and instructors at Frenchman’s Creek, anyone can join the party! During the class you'll dance a different routine to each of 9 to 12 songs, moving to a mix of Latin rhythms (salsa and merengue) as well as hip-hop, country and disco. Each session includes a warm-up and cool down; some classes incorporate squats and jumps. Bottom line: You won't be bored! To join Zumba you don't need to have moves like J.Lo. Research shows that fit and less-fit people can get an equally good workout doing Zumba. It's more about moving than getting the dance. While you may feel klutzy at first, you will get better, don't worry about coordination, after a few classes you will fill comfortable. Learning the new dances is great mental exercise. As with any cardiovascular workout, the benefits of Zumba can include calorie burn— this workout can erase almost 600 calories per hour. You're constantly switching between high and low intensities, so it's a great interval workout. The moves also increased aerobic threshold, more stamina, increased bone density, improved balance and muscle tone, less body fat, and lower blood pressure. Sometimes people go for therapy, sometimes they go for social connections, sometimes they love to dance and there's no time. Zumba is the perfect excuse. Marisol, our own fitness and Zumba expert will show you the basics on Monday, August 11 th .

Security
Community Accident Etiquette
I would like to address a situation, although it happens infrequently, is nevertheless very important. If you find yourself in a situation where you have been involved in an accident of any kind or traffic crash, regardless of how minor, please stay at the scene of the incident until security has arrived. Security typically responds to these types of calls within 2-4 minutes. This also includes incidents where there has been physical contact between two golf carts, golf carts and bicycles/ pedestrians, or damage to a structure, building, etc. It is common courtesy to stay at the scene until security arrives and is able to properly document the situation. We will also make sure there are no injuries to you or anyone else involved. It does not matter whether the other vehicle or cart is occupied or not. If you abide by this simple rule you can avoid the perception of being a “Hit & Run” driver or trying to flee from the incident. Although the incident can be embarrassing, it’s not nearly as embarrassing as being perceived as someone who does not take responsibility for their actions. Many times, when the incident is properly reported to security, and there are no injuries, a law
enforcement report can be avoided and the parties involved can resolve it amongst themselves. When one person leaves the scene of the incident without calling or waiting for security to arrive, local law enforcement may be required to respond. A common reason security hears for a resident leaving the scene is that they wanted to go tell their spouse. Upon security arriving we will immediately notify your spouse, and even go pick them up and bring them to the scene if you request it. Another reason we hear for leaving the scene of an incident is the resident is late for an appointment or needs to get home for any number of reasons. This can be perceived by the others involved as very inconsiderate. It is my responsibility to create and maintain the safest environment possible for all of you to live and play. I take this responsibility very seriously and ask for your assistance in eliminating the situations described above.

BICYCLE SAFETY: HAND SIGNALS
Cycling Safety As the weather warms, more bicycles dot the roadways, and drivers and cyclists should be alert.
Follow these tips to ensure safety for all: FOR DRIVERS Avoid distractions, including cell phones. Yield to cyclists when turning. During inclement weather, give cyclists extra room when passing them. Check mirrors and blind spots frequently for cyclists. Don’t ever honk your horn at a biker. Before you open your car door, always check for a cyclist.
Ah, the pleasure of spring cycling. You feel the breeze on your face as you pedal through your neighborhood—then swerve suddenly when the driver of a parked car opens the door. This isn’t an uncommon occurrence in the United States for cyclists. Each year, vehicles and bikes collide more than 500,000 times. But those numbers could decrease, if drivers and cyclists follow common rules of the road and remain alert. Summer, it’s a good time to review safe practices. If drivers and cyclists follow the law, stay alert and remember to share the road, perhaps more people can enjoy spring’s breezes—and stay safe.
FOR CYCLISTS
Always wear a helmet.
Follow the same traffic rules as motorists. Avoid cycling on sidewalks. Wear bright colors during the day and reflectors at night.
Ensure headlights and taillights are working.
Use hand signals during all turns.

SUMMER PROGRAM
Tip from the Pros:
WAYS TO BEAT THE HEAT
TENNIS CLINICS Tuesdays 8:30 am – 10 am
Dress smart: Wear loose fitting clothes that are light in color. Cotton clothing will keep you cooler than many synthetics. Keep cool: Fill a spray bottle with water and keep in the refrigerator for a quick refreshing spray to your face after being outside. Eat light: Instead of hot foods, try lighter summer fare including frequent small meals or snacks containing cold fruit or low fat dairy products. Use common sense: If the heat is impossible, stay indoors when you can and avoid activities in direct sunlight. Pay special attention to anyone with a chronic illness, as they may dehydrate easily and be more susceptible to heat–related illness. Don’t forget that pets also need protection from dehydration and heat–related illness too.
Hydrate: It’s a good idea to consume between six and eight 8- ounce glasses of water a day. Combat dehydration by drinking plenty of water along with sports drinks or other sources of electrolytes. Avoid drinking caffeine and alcoholic beverages as this promotes dehydration. Keep plastic bottles of water in the freezer, grab one when you are ready to go play tennis. As the ice melts, you will have a supply of cold water with you. Replenish skin : Even if you’re serious about sun safety, it’s tough to avoid the effects of the Southern sun. Always apply SPF 30 (or higher) before having fun in the sun! Change your exercise routine : If you like exercise outside take advantage of cooler temperatures in the early mornings and late evenings. Exercise indoors some days of the week if possible. Otherwise, shorten the time of extraneous exercise outside and take more water breaks.
Can’t make it to your Saturday morning match? Sign up for this clinic for a great workout. Get technical advice from the pros on any shot you may need to work on, plus leave the class feeling energized and wanting to play more. All members are welcome. ROUND ROBINS Thursdays & Saturdays 8:30 am – 10 am Grab your racquet and join us for our Round Robin. Sign up with the Tennis Pro Shop call at 622-1623. PICKLEBALL GAME Fridays 8:30 am—10 am Sign up for Pickleball game and a great workout. The Pickleball game, is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It is a fast growing sport in many parts of the country and you should try it too. Please call Tennis Shop at 622-1623, for more information and to sign up.
