GOLF
Dear Members, Hopefully everyone is off to a great start to the summer, and that the weather is pleasant and cool, wherever you may be. The golf staff along with the Golf and Green’s Committee is busy planning the activities for next season, and we are currently working on the final version of the golf calendar. Our goal this season is to continue to decompress the schedule, so there are not multiple events within a short period of time. We also will start tournament activity in late October and run the schedule through late April. We have also done our best to not have events on Saturday morning, not withstanding a couple of exceptions. Be on the lookout for the complete schedule within the next few weeks. On another note, we are in the height of the South Florida thunderstorm and lightning season. The ThorGuard lightening prediction system is fully function. One long blast of the horn, means that lightening is nearby, and anyone outside should immediately seek shelter. For those of you playing golf, it is required, that you cease playing and seek shelter. There are also flashing strobe lights located throughout the property, just in case you didn’t hear the horn. If the strobe light is flashing yellow, it means that lightening is in the area, and you should seek shelter. ThorGuard also has a mobile app that members can download to their cell phones to receive up to date weather information for the area. Contact the Golf Shop at (561) 622-1620 and the team will walk you through the download and use of the app. The North Course is currently closed for summer maintenance, and it will reopen on Monday, July 24th. At that time, the South Course will close and not reopen until Monday, October 3th. During the closures, both courses will be aerified, verticut, fairways, tees and greens top-dressed, certain areas treated for mole crickets and a wall to wall weed control application. All these various processes are necessary to create optimal playing conditions for the upcoming season. As a reminder, the Fourth of July is merely a month away. For the holiday, there will be an Independence Day Couples event on Wednesday, July 4th at 9am and a Summer Sunset (Nine Hole) Golf event on Sunday, July 7th.
