JR CONGDON …. LES KAPLAN HAS A QUESTION FOR YOU!
LES KAPLAN called me, Bobbe Wiener, to relate the following golf story. ALL TRUE!!! “ It's one of the craziest golf events I've ever experienced..............
A couple of days ago, while playing the twelfth hole on the North course, my tee shot landed in the middle of the fairway. Barbara Ilsen, my playing partner, also hit her tee shot in the fairway.
As we drove toward our respective balls, a crow swooped down, picked my ball up in its beak, flew away with it - and dropped it in an adjacent lake.
While four of us stood laughing at what just happened, the same crow flew back, landed next to Bar- bara's ball, and picked it up, intending to fly away with that one too, Barbara drove her golf cart to- ward the bird, and using a limited number of words, strongly suggested that the bird drop the ball. It did - and left with an empty beak.
On reflection, I began to wonder what rules of golf might apply - In Barbara's case the ball moved, but as she was clearly addressing the bird, not the ball, was there a penalty?
In my case, am I penalized for my ball being in a hazard? Do I drop no nearer the hole, which is maybe a half mile away?
Do we score a birdie? “
I'm sure there are more fun golf rules that might work. Any ideas?

WOMEN FOR SCRIPP ’ S RESEARCH LUNCHEON
“ REACH FOR THE STARS ” , the first event of the season ’ s Women for Scripp ’ s Research events, was a fabulous luncheon and fashion show. The super event was held on Monday, December 13th at the Palm Beach Saks Fifth Avenue, and every seat available was taken. The area provided for the
afternoon was lovely. After a delightful lunch and a cosmetics demonstration, there was a gorgeous fashion show with models wearing the most beautiful outfits. All attendees received a $50.00 gift certificate and discounts on all items purchased a the store after the luncheon. Saks also contributed 10% of the proceeds of our purchases to the fund raiser. Co - chairs, IRIS AREST, ROBERTA SELZER and ARLENE FELDMAN (pictured above), did a super job kicking off this season ’ s fundraiser. We thank Mimi Bergel for this article
In next month ’ s edition, we would like to feature Children of members or former members who have bought at French- man ’ s. Please e - mail one of our editors or correspondents with a brief message of why you chose to live here. We think all the members would enjoy hearing from you. bobbe wiener

Please don ’ t hate me ‘ cuz I ’ m beautiful. It ’ s not my fault. My parents were beautiful too. I ’ m a cocka - per which means I ’ m part cocker spaniel, part perfect. But mostly perfect. My name is Delilah. I ’ m 5 months old and I live in Oxford, Mississippi with my owners, Harrison and Madeleine. I ’ m looking forward to my first visit to Florida and I can ’ t wait to see my great grandparents Helene and Mel Shutter at Frenchman ’ s Creek. I overheard two French poodles say that Frenchman ’ s Creek is the Land of Milk Bones and Honey and I look forward to seeing it for myself. If you see me cruisin ’ in the cart, flirting at the dog park or under par on the course, please say “ Hi ”.
I ’ m a smile maker extraordinaire. ”
The Honorable Ann Brown and Dr. Ted Poritz have a new dog named Magdalena, called Maggie. She is a mini - Bernedoodle who will grow to about a medium size of under 40lbs. She is peppy and enthusiastic and very much a puppy right now. She has been in rigid training for some time. In the picture, she is beating up a Donald trump doll. In this household, even the dog is political.

We're delighted to welcome so many new members to Frenchman's Creek and wanted to take this opportunity to acquaint you with the good we provide our neighbors through the Frenchman's Creek Charities Foundation.
Founded in 1993 by a few members with its own board, the foundation morphed from a one - day golf tournament into a charity weekend with oversight by Frenchman's board of governors. It supports the work of 20 local nonprofit organizations that provide health, education, cultural and financial assistance to our nearby populations in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Juno Beach. While we support the police, fire and recreation departments in the towns where Frenchman's is located, we also have: Enabled low - income children to learn about the environment through programs at Loggerhead Marinelife Center and Busch Wildlife Sanctuary; Helped autistic children at the Ernie Els Learning Center communicate more easily thanks to touch screen tablets we provided; and Gave emergency financial assistance to disabled veterans and parents of children undergoing cancer treatment. The Charities Foundation is your foundation. Think of it as a giving circle. While any individual contribution is significant, it's the combined funds that help us make a real difference. The more we make, the more we give, and last season, thanks to your generosity, we were able to not only fully fund all our grantees, but increase the requested funds sought by two organizations whose recipients were financially strapped. Each year, we make this happen by having a fun - filled Charity Weekend, scheduled this year for March 24 - 27. Traditionally, this includes tennis, pickleball, bocce, an auction of the pros and caddies who play two days later in a golf tournament, and a concluding festive dinner. This year, barring any Covid restrictions, we plan to add a wonderful kickoff concert by gifted British pianist Simon Mulligan whose repertoire ranges from Stravinsky to Sting. We also hope to offer golf related items you can bid on at the caddy auction, and our first exciting Casino Night. And finally, at our closing dinner, we hope to auction off big ticket items as well. Our goal is to make philanthropy fun. We welcome your participation on the Charities Foundation committee where we thoroughly vet our grantees and vote on their grant requests. During the weekend itself, there will be plenty of volunteer opportunities to help make it a success. Bottom line: greater participation with your time and money equals greater assistance for our neighbors. In upcoming issues of FC Life, we will highlight some of the charities we support and the grants they are seeking since it's important for you to know where your money goes.

Frenchman ’ s Creek Volunteer Match Program and Palm Beach County Food Bank Thanks our Members for their generous contributions of food.
On Monday morning, December 13th, 75 members brought food to the Palm Beach County food truck which delivers food to different locations in the county. They just moved to a larger warehouse to improve storage and delivery. Frenchman ’ s Creek Volunteer Match Program is proud to be among 1 of 200 non profit agencies that support Food Bank Programs with food donations . Thank you to our members. Last month we had a clothing drive for the Lord's Place -- very successful. There was an article in the Palm Beach Post about the works the Lord's place does for the homeless. The Frenchman ’ s Creek Volunteer Match Program (now in its sixth year) is “ virtual ” during Covid - 19. We produce videos for schools instead of visiting schools. We help students on - line instead of in their classrooms. We donate clothing to the Lord ’ s Place thrift shops that use proceeds to help the homeless. Covid - 19 has challenged the Volunteer Match Program to think creatively, and we could not do it without the support of our club management and staff. If you are interested in volunteering with the Volunteer Match Program, leave your name with the POA and a member will contact you. Most important: Stay healthy! And Happy and Healthy New Year. HERE IS THE NOTE WE NOW GIVE TO THE DONATION EVENTS DONORS

The Volunteer Match Program members helped load two cars and then drove them down to the Palm Beach County Food Bank warehouse.
With schools open again (hopefully), we can go back to working with the schools (in person or virtual or videos.) Barbara Stern has maintained our club's relationship with the Grove Park School and Edna Runner. This year, the Palm Beach School Department has made teaching about the holocaust mandatory. When Barbara mentioned the topic to me, I, Nancy Berkley offered to do a short video about the first concentration camp I saw -- in 1960 -- before it had been cleaned up and prepared as a tourist destination. And about how I remembered it all these years later. -- I wanted to emphasize the importance of memory. NEW: We received a call from the Palm Beach Junior Achievement to do videos about different careers - 3 - 5 minutes long. One video each on a variety of careers from chefs to ground keepers to careers in medicine. Pamela Rudd ’ s video assistance has been terrific. Their target age is ten years old. We would welcome volunteers from members who want to participate.
