JANUARY 2019 FC LIFE

Recently, as we wished everyone a Happy New Year, I thought not for the first time, that “Happy is easier if you have “Healthy.”

And on January 9th, a large audience of very interested members hung on every word of the presentation of four distinguished members/doctors at the discussion titled, “HOUSE CALLS, The Doctors Are In.” All four addresses were comprehensively illustrated by our overhead projections system which is customized for 360 degree viewing so that everyone could see everything!

Dr. Larry Cohen spoke about skin cancers and how to recognize them and try to prevent them. (sunblock, sunblock, sunblock)

Dr. Burt Greenberg spoke about risk factors for coronary heart disease and for atrial fibrillation and some ways to help your heart stay healthy.

Dr. Mel Dinner spoke about reconstructing parts of the body disfigured by birth or illness.

Dr. Larry Singerman spoke about diseases of the eyes such as cataracts, glaucoma and age related macular degeneration. An interesting Q and A followed.

This program was brought to us by the team in Marketing and by members, Beth Elgort and Marie Adler Kravacas. Norma Lippman

Perhaps this has happened to you– Last week, I tried to go through the gate and it did not go up. Okay, I thought a fluke– when it happened three more times, I then asked the gate guard what was the problem. It seems that the POA has enforced a rule that the transponders expire every three years. This is for your security, that you are still a member and or permitted a transponder i.e. an aide who lives with the resi- dent. Staff vehicles are renewed every 12 months and guests can only have a transponder for 30 days. If you encounter this problem, have the gate guard check your transponder and he/she can reinstate you immediately. Sometimes, these transponders do get damaged and of course a new one will be installed. On another note, PLEASE PLEASE consider what you are wearing at dusk or night– light clothing and most important something reflective– security gives out reflective vests and LED bracelets for your safety. They are Free! WALK opposing traffic and on the right side of the street.
