Opening day for the Men’s golf on October 26 th ,presented perfect weather with bright blue skies, no wind and very low humidity. The professional golf staff headed by J.R. Congdon ably supported by Kim Augusta, Todd Kitchen, Rocco Panzetta, Chris Smith. Bella and the Caddies, were well prepared and had balanced the teams very well. The format was a step aside scramble and the scramble started in the new golf cart launch area. This space, adjacent to the remnants of the old clubhouse, looked like gridlock, with golf carts pointing in every direction. It resembled the Chicago freeways at peak traffic, yet somehow without incident or tempers flaring the traffic jam cleared and the 116 players were on the two courses and ready to compete. At 8:45am the horn sounded for the shotgun start. Although the North course is considered more difficult, the scoring on this course was almost three points lower than on the South Course. Wes Dillard had the courses in tip top shape and the sand traps in the best condition they have ever been in. Setting teams with A B C and D players allows the high handicap players to enjoy playing with some good golfers. The winning scores were spectacularly low including 20 under on the North course. The proximity prizes on the par threes were fiercely contested and closest to the pin on 13 North was within 2 feet of the hole. Everyone had a great time playing comfortably from their usual tees and finishing in under 4 hours. The lunch served in the Pavilion was excel- lent, absolutely meeting the high Frenchman’s creek standard, for which we are all thankful to Food and Beverage staff and servers. The consensus was that this was an excellent launch for the Men’s golf season and Hail to the victors on the South Course KEN BEZOZO, BRUCE FEINBERG, HARRIS BERMAN and JUSTIN WALDER, whereas on the North Course the spoils went to DAVID SPEISS, MICHAEL FORMAN, LARRY BLACKER and ROBERT SHAW who posted a sparkling twenty under par, including nine natural birdies.
