The HALLOWEEN PARTY was a thriller of a night JUDY and PAUL KONIGSBERG had a party before the festivities started to set the tone of the evening. Their theme was Michael Jackson. They assembled at the Konigsberg for a pre party. Island, our dance instructor choreographed a dance routine and we then proceeded to the pool for our debut and Halloween party. Opening day for the Men’s golf on October 26 th ,presented perfect weather with bright blue skies, no wind and very low humidity. The professional golf staff headed by J.R. Congdon ably supported by Kim Augusta, Todd Kitchen, Rocco Panzetta, Chris Smith. Bella and the Caddies, were well prepared and had balanced the teams very well. The format was a step aside scramble and the scramble started in the new golf cart launch area. This space, adjacent to the remnants of the old clubhouse, looked like gridlock, with golf carts pointing in every direction. It resembled the Chicago freeways at peak traffic, yet somehow without incident or tempers flaring the traffic jam cleared and the 116 players were on the two courses and ready to compete. At 8:45am the horn sounded for the shotgun start. Although the North course is considered more difficult, the scoring on this course was almost three points lower than on the South Course. Wes Dillard had the courses in tip top shape and the sand traps in the best condition they have ever been in. Setting teams with A B C and D players allows the high handicap players to enjoy playing with some good golfers. The winning scores were spectacularly low including 20 under on the North course. The proximity prizes on the par threes were fiercely contested and closest to the pin on 13 North was within 2 feet of the hole. Everyone had a great time playing comfortably from their usual tees and finishing in under 4 hours. The lunch served in the Pavilion was excel- lent, absolutely meeting the high Frenchman’s creek standard, for which we are all thankful to Food and Beverage staff and servers. The consensus was that this was an excellent launch for the Men’s golf season and Hail to the victors on the South Course KEN BEZOZO, BRUCE FEINBERG, HARRIS BERMAN and JUSTIN WALDER, whereas on the North Course the spoils went to DAVID SPEISS, MICHAEL FORMAN, LARRY BLACKER and ROBERT SHAW who posted a sparkling twenty under par, including nine natural birdies. Av Fanaroff

JEFFREY TAUBER had his Hole - In - One on Thursday, November 17, 2022. It was on hole Number 11 of the South Course playing at 140 yards. Pictured with Jeffrey are from left to right Tony Lampert, Marty Berger and Joseph Kaplan.

The official opening tournament of the Frenchman's Creek Ladies Golf Association 2022 - 2023 season was held on Tuesday, November 1. Despite a slight rain storm just before the tourna- ment, the weather was just beautiful. It was a lovely day for a very enjoyable event, in which 136 ladies participated. The teams were divided into four groups, one playing on each nine. The format, as usual, was a nine - hole ABCD step - aside scramble, with everyone putting. After golf, the opening day luncheon was held at the Pavilion. Following a delicious soup, there was a wonderful, extensive buffet with so many choices from a salad bar and entrees, and ending with a luscious variety of desserts. Chef Ernesto and our super food and beverage staff provided a great meal. Special thanks to Martina and David for the wonderful luncheon. At the end of the luncheon, the winning teams were announced and they are listed below. As usual, the golf staff did a super job of organizing the tournament and getting everyone off so smoothly. Thanks to Kim and JR as well as Chris, Will, Rocco and Todd and the rest of the staff. And special thanks go to Dottie Kovel and Bonnie Shyer for their planning and making all the arrangements for such a great and successful day, and to Sue Shaw and Carol West for making all the arrangements for the super luncheon. The Veteran ’ s Day Golf Tournament was played on Friday, November 11th. A record number of 188 members played consisting of teams all men, all ladies, mixed couples. There were contributions from over 200 households. Both courses were used for the step aside scramble format, two drives from each player required and 18 holers played as well as 9 holers. Because of hurricane Nicole, everyone had their fingers crossed, the tournament would be played. And sure enough, Mother Nature gave us the most beautiful day with clear skies, slight wind, and low humidity. Upon checking in, all the players received a sleeve of flag designed golf balls and at lunch we were given, a veteran ’ s day Frenchman ’ s Creek designed golf hat and a leather putter cover– red, white and blue designed. On the course there were two ample refreshment stations covering both courses at the same time– plus a roaming beverage cart. After golf, we were treated to a wonderful buffet luncheon having food available to every taste and diet restriction. The Food and Beverage Committee did a superb job being the parameters set by the Pavilion at this time. Co - Chairs, Jeffrey Parker and Jim Anchin announced that in excess of $ 33,000 was raised and will go directly to the VA of West Palm Beach to be used for homeless veterans. Thank you to the Co - Chairs and the Golf Staff for providing a successful great day handled perfectly logistically and professionally. Below are the winners:

The President ’ s Cup is considered the first major tournament in the Frenchman ’ s Creek Men ’ s golf season. The event took place this year on Friday November 4 th . First round, Best Ball of Partners, with 85% of handicap and Monday the 7 th of November, alternate shots, with 60% of the lower and 40% of the partners higher handicap. There were six flights with prizes awarded for the overall winner, runner up, round 1 and round 2 winners. The addition of round 2 winners helps keep everyone in the competition, even if they have a disastrous first round. The weather was perfect and the competition fierce but friendly. Round 2 was characterized by some incredibly low scores, 11 under, and some blow ups which can easily happen with the alternate shot format. When the dust, mainly from the construction site, settled, GIL HOLLANDER and JEFF TAUBER were victorious in the Hogan flight with MARK ROSENBAUM and MICHAEL BERNSTEIN winning the Jones flight. Other flight winners included STAN LEVIN and ALAN MINTZ, Palmer flight, ALAN YOUNG and DAVID DAVIS, Snead Flight, ED BLOCH and ROBERT STILTON Woods Flight and ROBERT SMOLENS and STEVE GORDON, Brad flight. A fine lunch at the Bag Drop café was a perfect finish to a tournament enjoyed by all. GIL HOLLANDER followed up his President ’ s cup win with a Hole - In - One on Thurs- day, November 10th to celebrate Hurricane Nicole narrowly missing Frenchman ’ s Creek. Av Fanaroff

Column by Lois Stern Photography by Carol Smith

In our June 2022 edition, LOIS STERN wrote about her and her husband SONNY ’ S Yorkie that had just passed away and she ended by saying perhaps in the near future there will be a happy story to write. Well here it is! We want to introduce you to our new puppy, Marley Stern. She is just 7 months old and joined our family this past July in New Jersey. It is our 4th Yorkie. As you might know, there is a lot of work to train a puppy. In all our married life, we have only been without a dog for three years. We are excited to have Marley. If anyone has a new pet or you are new to Frenchman ’ s

Creek with a pet, and would like to share you ’ re a article, please call LOIS (our precious pets) at 561 - 626 - 5062.

ANOTHER BIKE TRIP from LOIS and SONNY STERN

This past September, we took another bike trip to the Piedmont Region of Italy. This area is next to Tuscany and is known for some of the best red wines produced anywhere. The vistas of the fields of grapes growing in the foot hills of the Alps are really beautiful. The rides took us to great views but were very hilly.

As usual, we were the oldest riders since the 14 others in the group were all quite young but great companions. One of the best parts of these trips

is the usual other riders you meet. Two other couples were from Australia and the others from various parts of the United States. Since this was our 29th bike trip, hopefully we will be able to partake in bike trip # 30 next year. The 30th bike trip is complimentary!

Anyone interested in learning about a bike vacation, do not hesitate to call us at 561 - 626 - 5062.

Thank you, Jeanne and Meredith, for taking us up on the offer to FedEx about a hundred Literacy Coalition Adult Student Essays to me at my home in Frenchman's Creek. That was step one!! Then with the help of our Frenchman's Creek members and Volunteer Match Chairperson, Andrea Finkel, and our POA office, we were able to divide up the hundred essays with the readers' instruction sheet among about a dozen of our members. Your instruction sheet is excellent! No surprise to us -- our Frenchman's Creek members found the

adult assignment very rewarding. It's always enriching to see the work that the Literacy Coalition does as well as get to read about the personal achievements of the community you serve. Andrea will be collecting the essay review sheets from our members by the end of this coming week with the comment sheets. I'm hoping this FedEx system and our Volun- teer Match Program and your wonderful volunteers who work with the adults learning English is a great match! Nancy Berkley THE CLEAN YOUR CLOSETS held Monday, November 11th had great support from our members. We thank all who gave to this wonderful cause, The American Cancer Society ’ s thrift shops.

Sue Davis, Chair of the Sub - Committee, along with the Entertainment Committee and her committee members, Wendy Weinstein and Dottie Kovel, are to be commended for their entire rethinking of Opening Night Party, Saturday, November 12th. As the Pavilion was not open for dining, they changed the format to Desserts, Drinks and Dancing to the “ Miami Sound Revue ” band. Over 300 members enjoyed a lovely even- ing of music, dancing if one wished, and wonderful desserts plus an open bar. It showcased the Pavilion and how festive it can appear and accommodate many of our members. A great night was had by all.

MUSIC APPRECIATION NIGHT with speaker NED DORMAN featuring, Billy Joel, which was on our daily E - mail and now showing on our in house FCTV CHANNEL 999, was a treat! Ned is captivating in his presentation and gives you great background of his subject, as he uses video clips to share behind the scene stories of the life and creative process of Billy Joel. Unfortunately, the evening was cut short due to rain. However, Ned will be back soon to finish his enlightening presentation on Billy Joel and have another per- former to tell us about. Be sure to watch for this event as it will be standing room only.
