GOLF
Dear Members, Hopefully, everyone is off to a great summer start, and the weather is pleasant and cool wherever you may be. The golf shop has now transitioned to its new location on the North side of the 10 North Pavilion. The retail area is fully stocked and ready and available to service any of your needs. Outside services are now located in the parking area adjacent to the Pavilion for any member needs; club cleaning, bag transfers, cart cleaning, water and recycles area, plus shoe clean and shine all take place in this one location. The golf staff and the Golf and Green Committee are busy planning the activities for next season, and we are currently working on the final version of the golf calendar. Our goal this season is to continue to decompress the schedule so there are not multiple events within a short time period. We will also start tournament activity in late October and run the schedule through the middle part of April. We have also done our best to not have events on Saturday morning, notwithstanding a couple of exceptions. Be on the lookout for the complete schedule within the next few weeks. Additionally, this year and going forward, members will be able to register for all golf events online. When the event information is published, a registration link will be provided in daily emails, on the website, and app. Members can click on the link, follow the two simple steps, and register. On another note, we are at the height of the South Florida thunderstorm lightning season. The ThorGuard lightning prediction system is fully functional. When a long blast of the horn sounds, this means that lightning is nearby, and anyone outside should immediately seek shelter. For those playing golf, everyone is required to cease play and seek shelter immediately. There are also flashing strobe lights throughout the property, just in case you didn’t hear the horn. If the strobe light is flashing yellow, lightning is in the area, and you should seek shelter immediately. ThorGuard also has a mobile application that members can download to their mobile devices to get the most up-to-date weather information available for the area. Contact the golf shop at 561-622-1620, and we will walk you through how the download works. The South Course is closed for summer maintenance and will reopen Monday, July 24. Then the North Course will close and reopen Monday, October 3. During these closures, both courses will be aerified, verticut, fairways, tees, and greens top-dressed, certain areas treated for mole crickets, and a wall to-wall weed control application. All these various processes are necessary to create optimal playing conditions for the upcoming season. As a reminder, the 4th of July is merely a month away. We are planning a Summer Sunset (Nine Hole) golf event on Friday, June 30; on Independence Day, July 4, we will host an eighteen-hole mixed couples’ shotgun at 9 am. Health and Happiness, J.R.
