GOLF

Dear Members, Last year the Golf and Green committees jointly reviewed and updated the golf rules and regulations. A big part of the enhanced rules and regulations pertain to “etiquettes of the game,” use of golf carts, dress code, among other topics. One of the main pillars of our golf rules that was adopted is: “Golf etiquette is a way of conveying respect to the players and the course. These are not “Rules of the Game;” they are “Traditions of the Game” that demonstrate integrity, self-policing, taking care of your surroundings, and being aware of the players around you.” Recently, I have received several comments and some photographs from members, regarding other members driving to close to greens, tees, and in some instances, dangerously close to bulkheads and lake edges. I have also heard from many about the lack of respect for the dress code policy. Typically regarding members wearing workout attire and non-golf clothing on the putting green and practice facilities. For the most part, I will admit, we have a fun job!! We are around the game that we are passionate about. We work at a great place and in a great environment, and we are surrounded by many very neat and interesting members and colleagues. And speaking personally, I have a wonderful golf staff. However, the absolute worst part of our job is being the enforcer of the rules! We are here to build relationships, not to tear them apart, but if you don’t follow the rules, we are required to advise and report you. So please help us and follow the rules, and for that one occasion, you might have a slip-up; please respect our responsibility at that moment as the rule’s enforcer. As I have said before, the entire thrust behind this effort is not to take the enjoyment out of playing or practicing golf. Instead, it is to protect the turf, the playability of the golf courses, and your and others’ safety, all of which can be adversely affected by inappropriate golf cart use. As a reminder, our policies regarding golf cart use and appropriate dress are recapped below. Use of Golf Carts: Golf carts must be operated in strict accordance with the posted instructions for the day. Our typical cart traffic rule is the 90-degree policy. Carts should be kept on the cart paths whenever possible and should not drive any nearer than 10 yards from greens and tees. Members with medial flags should use the cart path when feasible, and should not be any nearer than 5 yards from any tee or green. Under no circumstance should a golf cart be driven between the green and a greenside bunker or near a bulkhead or a severe slope next to a body of water. Dress Attire: Proper attire is required on the golf course and practice facility at all times. Clothing that is not permitted on the golf course or practice facility for both men and women would be tank tops, jeans, tennis or short shorts, and workout clothing. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important matter.
