Hurricane Preparedness Tips

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

TROPICAL STORM WATCH means tropical storm conditions

(sustained winds of 39-73 mph) are possible in a specified area

within 48 hours.

TROPICAL STORM WARNING means tropical storm conditions

(sustained winds of 39-73 mph) are expected in a specified area

within 36 hours.

HURRICANE WATCH means hurricane conditions (sustained winds

of 74 mph or higher) are possible within a specified area within 48

hours of a tropical storm warning. Prepare your home and review

your plan while listening closely to instructions from local offi

cials.

HURRICANE WARNING means hurricane conditions (sustained

winds of 74 mph or higher) are expected within the specified area.

Since hurricane preparedness activities become difficult once

winds reach tropical storm force conditions, the hurricane warning

is issued within 36 hours of the anticipated onset of tropical storm

force winds to allow for important preparation.
