GOLF

Dear Members, Did you know that the world recorded the hottest day ever several times in July? And I think many of those days have been recorded right here in Frenchman’s Creek! Most likely, the month of August will not bring any reprieve either. Staying hydrated is paramount, and we’ll have staff out on both nines delivering cold water and chilled towels. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, find shade, which will feel 10-15 degrees cooler. The heat and humidity produce thunderstorms with intense lighting, which can develop quite suddenly. Below is a friendly reminder about our ThorGuard system. ThorGuard Lightening Prediction System: The ThorGuard Lightening prediction system. The system measures the energy in the atmosphere and predicts the probability of a lightning strike within a specific area. Our system is set to measure a lightning strike within a 5-mile radius of the temporary golf shop. • One long blast of the horn means there is imminent lightning danger. • There are orange strobe lights located throughout the property (for the hearing impaired) • If the orange strobe light is flashing, it indicates that we are in a lightning suspension. • Play is suspended at this time, and all golfers should immediately seek the nearest shelter. • Three short blasts of the horn indicate the threatening weather has dissipated, and it is safe to resume play. Everyone should remember that the system is a prediction system and is not foolproof, and one should constantly assess the threat risk and use their best common judgment. On a more fun note, the staff and I took some of our lady members to play the Palm Beach Par 3 on July 6. We had a wonderful time and a great lunch following play. The highlight of the day was that our Golf Intern, Ms. Charlie Hatley, had a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, and golf professional Kim Augusta made a hole-in-one on the 15th hole, and they were playing in the same foursome.

Congratulations, ladies, two shots well played! We look forward to seeing everyone very soon. J.R. Congdon Director of Golf jcongdon@frenchmanscreek.com 561-273-2661

SECURITY

Frenchman’s Creek Heat Exhaustion

August is typically the hottest month for South Floridians. Within our community, many of our members enjoy the outdoors. With high August temperatures comes the potential for heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into a heatstroke, it is an emergency, and a person should seek medical attention immediately. Check for signs of heat exhaustion. The symptoms of heat exhaustion include: • tiredness • dizziness • headache • feeling sick or being sick • excessive sweating and skin becoming pale and clammy or getting a heat rash, but a change in skin color can be harder to see on brown and black skin • cramps in the arms, legs, and stomach • fast breathing or heartbeat The symptoms of heat exhaustion are often the same in adults and children, although children may become irritable, too. If someone shows signs of heat exhaustion, they must be cooled down and given fluids. If someone has heat exhaustion, follow these four steps: 1. Move them to a cool place. 2. Remove all unnecessary clothing like a jacket or socks. 3. Get them to drink a sports or rehydration drink or cool water. 4. Cool their skin – spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them. Cold packs, wrapped in a cloth and put under the armpits or on the neck, are good, too. Stay with them until they’re better. They should start to cool down and feel better within 30 minutes. For further questions, please contact security at 561-622-7800. • a high temperature • being very thirsty • weakness

AUGUST 2023 Edition Highlighting the news and events of JULY 2023

FC Life July 33

It was indeed a special day at the Raymond Floyd Par Three Golf Course i n Palm, Beach. Thursday, July 6, 2023, t he Golf Team arranged for 12 women to play the par 3 course with four of our Pros. Historically, this day always proves to be lots of fun and challenging. Oh! You say, it is only a Par 3 course … Ha Ha on the ocean and Intracoastal it is tough and has holes of varied yardages from an iron, to a driver or 3 wood for some. This day proved to be exciting as well as fun , even though the weather was extremely hot - no ocean breeze for us! There were 3 foursomes mad e up of ; JR, R h oda Edelman, Anne Stanfield, and Bobbe Wiener: Next was Chris, Sandra Glassman, Ladies Golf at Palm Beach Par 3

Betsy Bernstein and Cara Young, And the final group were Charley, Kim, Elena Ezratty, and Karen Rosenbaum. On hole number eight Charley Hatley, our golf trainee, made a Hole –In - One. By the way her handicap is + 1. Not bad for a young woman! Not to be out done, Kim got a Hole - In - One on number 15! How exciting for them and Elena and Karen who played with them. We also want to thank Karen for these great pictures and special words.

Following golf, we ate at the Par 3 special restaurant — excellent as always! Thank you, To the FC Golf Team , for arranging this special exciting, fun day.

TO OUR LEGACY MEMBERS (children of our present members or past members) Last month, publishing an article by one of our legacy members, I learned, much to my happiness, that more members would like to write an article for Frenchman ’ s Creek Life about why they chose to live at Frenchman ’ s. Short or long, we welcome

your articles so the column Legacy Members can be printed each month. Please e - mail the article to me, babasouth@aol.com, the POA office or the marketing office and I will get it. And kindly put your name in the email as many E - mail addresses do not always identify who the sender is.

THANK YOU! I look forward to hearing from all of you!

PLEASE WEAR A REFLECTIVE BRACELET OR VEST WHEN WALKING AT DUSK AND AT NIGHT.

BOTH ITEMS ARE AVAILABE FOR FREE AND DISTRIBUTED BY OUR SECURITY TEAM.
