Pickleball Tips
As most of us move from the “banging” game to the “soft” game, here are a few tips that will help you make the transition easier: 1) After the ball is served, the receiving player should try and hit a deep return and then join their partner at the kitchen line. 2) Since the serving team has to let the ball bounce before they can strike the ball, the only way to join the opposition at the kitchen line is to develop a consistent “third shot drop.”: This can be achieved by: - Having a firm grip on the paddle, - Using the pendulum motion to move the paddle, stepping into the shot, - Making contact with the ball while it’s out in front of you, - Putting an arc on the ball (but not too high) and following through. • The further the ball needs to travel, the longer the follow thru. And then of course you and your partner getting to the kitchen line and the dinking begins! • Remember to “respect the net!” I’d rather see a ball hit too high than go into the net.
